UT Medical Center pharmacist named Health-System Pharmacist of the Year

The Tennessee Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP) recently named Shaun Rowe, PharmD, BCPS, Health-System Pharmacist of the Year. Rowe is a Pharmacist Specialist in Trauma and serves as Pharmacy Residency Director for first year pharmacy residents at The University of Tennessee Medical Center.

“I am honored to be nominated and awarded Health-System Pharmacist of the Year,” Rowe said. “It is a privilege to be recognized in such a manner by one's peers.”

The Health-System Pharmacist of the Year Award is presented annually in recognition of significant contributions to the profession of pharmacy and hospital practice; development and implementation of advanced hospital pharmacy practice, programs, research, and/or publications; personal enrichment endeavors through specialized training and advanced degrees; and demonstrated leadership qualities. The Tennessee Society of Health-System Pharmacists is a statewide professional organization for pharmacists whose practice is in an institution or health system. It is affiliated with the Tennessee Pharmacists Association and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

“Shaun Rowe embodies our mission and that of the pharmacy profession to truly serve patients and his fellow colleagues through his tireless, dedicated efforts toward optimal medication use and pharmacy practice,” said Kim Mason, PharmD, director of pharmacy services at UT Medical Center.

Rowe received his PharmD degree from Campbell University College of Pharmacy in Buies Creek, NC. He then completed a residency at The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

In addition to his clinical duties, Rowe serves as a member of the medical center’s Physician’s Medical Education and Research Foundation Board, as well as a member of the UT Graduate School of Medicine Institutional Review Board. He is a member the Tennessee Pharmacists Association, the Tennessee Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

Rowe and his wife, Erica, have lived in Knoxville for seven years and they have two children.
