Employees at the University of Teneessee Medical Center donated 3 vans full of toys to the Off the Tree Fund, an organization that donates toys to children that are in foster care or state care. Employees donated all types of toys for all ages through drop boxes located throughout the hospital, which collected enough toys to provide presents to more than 400 kids in the Knoxville, TN, area.
This is UT Medical Center’s first year collecting for the Off the Tree Fund that was sponsored by the Nursing Research Council. The idea was presented to the council during an Aug. and Sept. Christmas community project suggestion period by Shannon Burton, RN, an MCC staff nurse.
“I am so proud to be a part of the team at UT Medical Center,” says Lisa Haddad, MS, BSN, RN, Nursing Research Coordinator. “Through the gracious giving of our employees we have been able to touch the live of hundreds of local children. Seeing how much was donated was heart warming.”
This fund was chosen unanimously by the Nursing Research Council because donations went directly to kids who were not on Angel Tree or other funds. Without these donations, so many children would not have presents this year. The children receiving these donations live in group homes, relative care and foster homes.
