Employees donate time to Empty Stocking Fund

Employees at The University of Tennessee Medical Center volunteered time this holiday season to assist the News Sentinel’s Empty Stocking Fund in providing food baskets to under-served families. Eight employees from Marketing Services donated time on Dec. 17 to help fill the baskets with fresh produce and canned goods while other employees volunteered the afternoon of Dec. 22 to deliver the baskets to 17 home-bound residents living in the Knoxville area.

“We felt like it was a great opportunity to give back to our community and share in the holiday spirit,” said Rhonda McAnally, director of Network Development at UT Medical Center.

The mission of the Empty Stocking Fund is to provide food and toys to disadvantaged East Tennesseans during the holidays. Each family receives a food basket with more than 70 pounds of food including a turkey, fresh produce, canned goods and much more to provide Christmas dinner as well as other meals throughout the holiday season.

Ann Giffin, vice president of the Brain and Spine Institute added, "It is a goal of the Brain & Spine Institute to offer hope to those we serve. Assisting the Empty Stocking Fund in the delivery of food and gifts to those in our region who need support during the holidays seems a natural extension of this goal. It is truly a great blessing to be able to help."

Employees that participated felt privileged to help such a worthy cause and look forward to future participation.

Thank you to all who donated their time and resources to spread holiday cheer to others this season.
