New parking garage significantly improves parking at the University of Tennessee Medical Center
Published: Tuesday, January 3, 2012
The opening of a new 755-space parking garage will make parking at The University of Tennessee Medical Center much easier for patients and visitors. Located adjacent to the Heart Hospital and Emergency Department, the garage will provide convenient covered parking for not only the hospital, but also for the emergency department, MRI and the Endoscopy Center starting Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
“During the past few months we have experienced a parking challenge with the start of construction on our new Cancer Institute,” said medical center president and CEO, Joseph R. Landsman, Jr. “However, with the opening of this garage, parking on our campus will be significantly improve. We will now be able to segment traffic on campus with visitors to the hospital parking in the new garage and visitors to the physicians’ offices parking in the medical office building garages.”
The pre-cast parking structure is made up of 574 individual pre-fabricated pieces with the heaviest piece weighing 74,000 lbs. Concrete slabs were built offsite, transported to the medical center and assembled onsite. The entire project took a little under 12 months to complete.
