Public Invited to Open House at Medical Simulation Center

New UT Graduate School of Medicine Facility to Improve Clinical Skills

Representatives of the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine invite members of the community to tour the new University of Tennessee Center for Advanced Medical Simulation Thursday, Feb. 16, 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. The medical simulation center is a 6,500-square-foot facility used by physicians and medical professionals from around the region and nation to advance their clinical skills, learn new procedures and improve clinical outcomes on behalf of their patients.

The open house gives members of the public a unique opportunity to see first-hand how healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, therapists, physician assistants, EMTs, dentists and others use sophisticated technology to learn techniques that can quickly be put into practice for their patients. Physicians and staff with the simulation center will discuss the training they provide. They’ll also demonstrate how the life-sized computerized mannequins, laparoscopic and other virtual reality simulation models are utilized to help medical professionals improve their clinical reasoning, decision making and overall clinical techniques.

Guests at the open house can get some first-hand experience with the advanced technology, including:

  • Practice simulated procedures such as arterial balloon dilation and coronary artery stenting
  • Train in endoscopic and bronchoscopic procedures
  • Test abilities in laparoscopic procedures and other surgical techniques

The UT Center for Advanced Medical Simulation is located on the campus of UT Medical Center. The entrance to the center is on the G-2 (red) level of the parking garage located between buildings C and D of the medical center. Event parking signs on campus that day will help guide visitors to the simulation center.
