Dr. Hanna Selected as Man of the Year by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Man & Woman of the Year campaign benefitted the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society…the six candidates and their supporters/community raised $81,000 to fight blood cancers.

Dr. Wahid Hanna, a hematologist/oncologist in the University of Tennessee Medical Center's Cancer Institute, has been named Man of the Year by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

After a 10 week campaign, Dr. Hanna’s team raise over $33,000 to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma’s patient support and research programs, and the community raised over $81,000 for this cause. Dr. Hanna has now been treating patients with blood cancers for 40 years. "The first acute leukemia patient I cared for was during my training in England in 1972, 40 years ago. The patient was a 52-year-old very charming Irish woman. After treatment her leukemia went into remission, which lasted for 2 ½ yrs," says Dr. Hanna as he looks back on his career. "At that time, I was a young doctor starting his career. However, from that point onward I knew that I wanted to dedicate the rest of my career to treating leukemia and other hematological malignancies."

The winners were: Man - Dr. Wahid Hanna, UT Medical Center Cancer Institute and Woman - Christine Bell, BG&T Consultants.
