UT Medical Center Adds Extra Healthy Living Kitchen Cooking Class

Due to the popularity of the cooking classes offered at The University of Tennessee Medical Center’s Heart Lung Vascular Institute, the medical center announced a second helping of the cooking class Healthy Living Kitchen: A Sizzling Mediterranean Cookout.

The first taste of the class filled up quickly and sold out. But the tables are being set for another Healthy Living Kitchen cooking class Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 12:30 p.m. in Suite E-170 of the Heart Lung Vascular Institute at UT Medical Center. Cost of the class is $20, which includes the class and the meal. Advance registration is required by calling 865.544.6877.

“This class offers participants a chance to fire up their grills, not their waistlines,” said Jane Kelly, a registered nurse with UT Medical Center’s Heart Lung Vascular Institute who helps teach the classes. “We will offer tips on grilling fish and preparing other tasty items. We will discuss the health benefits of omega-3 and reveal some healthier options to use when cooking. But best of all, we will have a great time and get to eat delicious food.”

The Healthy Living Kitchen cooking classes are taught by a team of experts, including Kelly, Monty Lowans, the executive chef at UT Medical Center, and Janet Seiber, a registered dietitian at the medical center.

The University of Tennessee Medical Center is a 581-bed, not-for-profit academic medical center, which serves as a referral center for Eastern Tennessee, Southeast Kentucky and Western North Carolina. The medical center, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, is one of the largest employers in Knoxville.
