Thursday, June 04, 2009

The Cancer Institute will be hosting the 7th annual “Celebrating Life” in observance of National Cancer Survivor’s Day on Sunday, June 7 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the AllSpice Cafe at UT Medical Center. Celebrating Life is Knoxville’s only locally recognized event in conjunction with National Cancer Survivors Day. National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual, worldwide Celebration of Life that is held in hundreds of communities throughout the United States, Canada and other participating countries. Participants unite in a symbolic event to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality.

There are more than 9.8 million Americans who have faced cancer and are alive today. This day was initiated to recognize survivors as well as those that were instrumental in helping them win their battles.

Survivors and their loved ones are invited to enjoy live entertainment, refreshments, door prizes and have a chance to visit numerous informational and educational booths. Survivors are encouraged to submit photos, writings and art work for the Survival Wall. This year’s event will include the dedication of the Healing Garden between the restaurant and Medical Building B.

The event will be located in the All Spice Café Restaurant at the medical center with a start time of 2 p.m.

Call the Cancer Institute at 856.305.6055 for information on attending.
