UT Medical Center and Pure Luxe Salon & Spa Combine Screenings and Spa Services
Pure Luxe Salon & Spa is teaming up with The University of Tennessee Medical Center Cancer Institute to provide women potentially lifesaving digital screening mammograms while also offering a luxurious spa experience at greatly reduced prices. The event, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday, March 1, is at Pure Luxe Salon & Spa, located at 10780 Hardin Valley Road in Knoxville. The reduced rate spa services that day are available to women who book a mammogram on the UT Medical Center mobile mammography unit and include a massage, facial or hand treatment.
“We just thought this was a really positive way to have these women come in and be as comfortable and relaxed as possible when they have their mammogram,” said Deena Barnes of Pure Luxe Salon & Spa. “We all know how important a mammogram is and that it can save a woman’s life. But we also wanted to give back to our community by coming up with a way for women to have an enjoyable, relaxing day at the spa when they had their mammogram.”
Pure Luxe, which will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Breast Health Outreach Program at UT Medical Center, will be closed to the general public that day. But women who schedule a digital screening mammogram through UT Medical Center’s University Breast Center by calling 865.305.9728, option 1, also can make an appointment for a spa service at a special price. The reduced rates and services that day include:
- 30-minute Swedish Massage for $25
- 30-minute Pure Luxe Facial for $25
- Smoothing Paraffin Hand Treatment for $5
Participants at the special event also are invited to enjoy the saunas, steam showers and lounges at Pure Luxe as well as gourmet refreshments, which will include seasonal fresh fruit and cheeses, pomegranate infused tea and cucumber water.
“We would really like to express our gratitude to Pure Luxe Salon and Spa for working with us on this first-time event on behalf of women in our community,” said Leah Bowling, RTRM, manager of University Breast Center at UT Medical Center’s Cancer Institute. “Our vision is to provide a pleasurable experience that allows women to pamper themselves while also addressing their breast health care. We also hope this enjoyable day can help alleviate the anxiety that some women associate with the recommended annual screening mammograms. We strongly encourage annual mammograms because early detection is considered as the best protection against breast cancer.”
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women. The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and older have a screening mammogram (X-ray of the breast) and a clinical breast exam every year. Detecting breast cancer at an early stage greatly improves chances of survival.
