A family event supporting prostate cancer awareness

Lace up your shoes, bring your family and friends and join us in the 1st annual THE MAN RUN for Prostate Cancer Awareness presented by SunTrust Bank, East Tennessee on Sept. 6 at Tyson Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. All funds raised will support free prostate screenings and prostate education provided in the community by The University of Tennessee Medical Center’s Cancer Institute.

Joe Torre, Arnold Palmer, Bob Dole, Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani and Nelson Mandela all have one thing in common. They all are prostate cancer survivors due to early detection through prostate cancer screening. One in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. In fact, prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men (excluding skin cancer) and the second leading cause of cancer death in males. Screening is key to early detection and survival.

The Man Run presented by SunTrust Bank seeks to bring men, women and families throughout the community together to raise awareness of prostate cancer and the benefits of screening and early detection. Participants can either register for the 5K Race beginning at 8 a.m. or a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. Registration is now open on www.active.com (Event: The Man Run Knoxville). Join as an individual or join the “UT Medical Center” team and take part in East Tennessee’s first prostate cancer awareness event! Donations are gladly accepted and tax deductible.

The University of Tennessee Medical Center’s Cancer Institute is proud to announce the first major event in East Tennessee to raise awareness of prostate cancer and support men and their families living with prostate cancer.
