Diet and Weight Loss

The days of fast food and grabbing something on the run have taken over. It seems as if everyone is running late to be in three places at once. Making sure your diet is filled with good food choices is important, but easily can be lost in the shuffle.

A healthy diet while maintaining a healthy weight according to your height helps protect your body from diseases such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, some types of cancer, sleep apnea and osteoarthritis.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, only one-fourth of adults in the United States eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Each food that we eat plays a crucial role in maintaining good health. A healthy diet consists of the following.

  • Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products.
  • Lean meats, poultry, fish, bean, eggs and nuts.
  • Few or low saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium) and added sugars.
