Memory Loss

When it comes to your health, nothing is more important than knowledge and understanding. The following Health Break from the University of Tennessee Medical Center contains information that can help you and your family live longer, healthier lives.

There are two common misconceptions about memory loss. One: that it is an inevitable part of the aging process; the other: that all forgetfulness can automatically be associated with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia. In reality, there are many steps you can take to minimize memory loss. Get regular exercise, eat a balanced diet, reduce stress in your life and get plenty of sleep. Try adding mental exercises such as crossword puzzles to your daily routine or engage in a new or challenging activity. Be sure to contact your caregiver, however, if your memory loss becomes so severe that it interferes with your daily tasks.

For more information about memory loss, consult your physician or visit the Brain and Spine Institute.
