Clinical Interests:

Dr. Soto specializes in Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) of all causes, and in Dyspnea (shortness of breath) secondary to heart disease. He has expertise performing Critical Care Echocardiography and Ultrasonography, and Right Heart Catheterizations in the cardiac cath lab. He incorporates those skills in the assessment of patients with complex cardiopulmonary diseases. Additional interests include Advanced Diagnostic and Therapeutic Bronchoscopy techniques (evaluation of Lung Cancer and Lung Nodules, and bronchoscopic placement of valves for severe Emphysema).

Personal Interests:

Dr. Soto chose the field of pulmonary with the goal of “helping patients breathe easier and better”. He is a firm believer in spending time educating his patients to help them participate of their own improvement and healing. He is very grateful for all the wisdom and knowledge that he has received from his mentors and teachers, and he loves teaching the younger generation of students and providers as a way of giving back and paying it forward. Dr. Soto’s wife, Dr. Diana Quintero, is a pediatric pulmonologist in Knoxville. They have three sons and they all enjoy dancing Latin music, hiking and travelling.

Research Interests:

Dr. Soto has participated in several, multi-center, investigator-initiated and industry-initiated clinical trials for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension. Other areas of research include the assessment of pulmonary manifestations of heart disease through echocardiography and right heart catheterization. He is also interested in the performance of bronchoscopy techniques in the evaluation of lung nodules and lung cancer.
