Surprise! Juice May Not Be as Good for You as You Think
Sugary drinks, like soda and juice, are one of the worst things you can put in your body. The amount of sugar contained in these beverages versus how full they make you feel means that you end up drinking more calories than your body realizes. There is a strong link between consuming sugary drinks and developing type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and many other health problems.
How Does Juice Stack Up Against Soda?
Unfortunately, juice is almost as bad as soda. While you may think you’re benefiting from the antioxidants and vitamins from the fruit, the amount of bad greatly outweighs the good. When you make juice, you leave the best part of the fruit behind. Things like the peel, seeds, pulp, even the membrane that holds the orange segments together are where the fiber and most of the antioxidants and vitamins are found. When you make juice, you leave these parts out and basically just end up drinking sugar water.
This goes for children too. A study done by World Obesity found that children who drank 100% juice at the age of two ended up at a higher chance of developing obesity later in life. You and your children are much better off eating a piece of fruit and drinking a glass of water. Or stick to unsweetened beverages and recognize sweetened drinks for what they are- a treat.
