The Advanced Orthopaedic Center and University Orthopaedic Surgeons are dedicated to providing quality, safe, and patient centered care through a comprehensive range of orthopaedic services. UT Medical Center is the region’s only Level I Trauma Center. We care for a wide range of orthopaedic injuries from minor fractures to the most complex orthopedic injuries. We also manage and treat orthopaedic problems of the shoulder, elbow, hands, hips, knees, ankle, and feet. Our multidisciplinary team delivers exceptional care by utilizing the most advanced skills, interventions and treatments in East Tennessee.
The Advanced Orthopaedic Center and University Orthopaedic Surgeons have dedicated 6 operating rooms and surgical staff to exclusively treat our orthopaedic surgical patients 24/7.
We have developed a Joint Replacement program that focuses on pre-operative education, optimization of health prior to surgery, and a wellness-oriented approach to recovery. Joint replacement patients recover after surgery in the Joint Replacement Center on 7 East. Focus is given to walking as soon as possible and preparing patients for recovery at home. Our multidisciplinary team meets regularly to review outcomes and best practice in the care of joint replacement patients. In 2017, we performed over 1,500 joint replacement surgeries. In January of 2018, we implemented the use of robotic technology to assist in our hip and knee replacement surgeries. We now have performed over 200 robotic hip and knee replacements. We are also offering personalized knee replacements with the use of Visionaire™. We were the first in East Tennessee to provide anterior hip replacements and have now performed over 2,200 anterior hip replacements surgeries.
Our orthopaedic trauma patients recover on 5 East or 10 East. The nursing staff works with a multidisciplinary team to provide quality, safe, and patient centered care to these patients. We have a dedicated multidisciplinary team that meets regularly to review outcomes and best practice for the care of orthopaedic trauma patients. Within our Orthopaedic Trauma program, we have developed a Fragility Fracture program to assist elderly patients with quicker recovery times, discharge, and extensive education. We also provide A Matter of Balance™, a program for the community that raises awareness of falls and how to prevent them.
