During surgical treatment for gynecologic cancer, the surgeon removes unwanted tissue, including tumors. Your surgeon may also remove the cervix, uterus, ovaries or other pelvic organs. Your medical team will help you determine which type of surgery is right for you.
The medical center provides the most advanced surgical options for patients, including:
- Minimally invasive surgery
- Robotic surgery
- Advanced pelvic surgery
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery reduces trauma to the body by using small scopes and instruments to visually guide the surgery, rather than performing the surgery through a large incision with a scalpel. This type of surgery means less pain and scarring, reduced health care costs and faster recovery. Read more about minimally invasive surgery.
Robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery used for medical conditions including cancerous and benign (not cancerous) gynecological disorders. Learn more about robotic surgery and the da Vinci Surgical System.
Advanced Pelvic Surgery
Advanced pelvic surgery (sometimes called radical pelvic surgery) is used to treat many disorders, both cancerous and benign. This can range from severe infections and adhesions to endometriosis and pelvic masses. It can also include debulking cancerous tumors and, at times, removing the pelvic organs.
Our oncologists and surgeons have extensive training and experience with all types of gynecologic surgery, and our multidisciplinary team is there to help the patient and her family at every point along the way.
A physician referral is needed to receive any type of surgical treatment.
