UT Medical Center's Cancer Institute to Offer Cancer Exercise Program
Published: Friday, February 23, 2018
The Cancer Exercise Program is an 8-week series that will be offered March 6 - April 26 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-10 a.m.
There is ample evidence that exercise is safe both during and after cancer treatment. Individuals who have had a cancer diagnosis should avoid physical inactivity as long as physical activity does not worsen symptoms or side effects.
This series of classes is designed to educate and empower cancer survivors to improve their own physical fitness in a safe environment that is led by trained Exercise Specialists. Over the course of the 8-weeks you will:
- Increase Strength and Endurance
- Improve Flexibility
- Work on Balance and Core Strength
- Learn How to Safely Exercise During or After Cancer Diagnosis
Tuesday classes will have an educational segment during the last 15-minutes. Topics will include exercise, nutrition, lymphedema, integrative health, treatment side effects, and support services.
Class size is kept small, which allows each individual's needs and specific cancer diagnosis to be addressed and appropriate exercise modifications are given if needed.
Cost of the 8-Week Exercise Training Series is $40.
