The Pat Summitt Clinic offers an externship program for undergraduates and graduates who are eager to learn more about the medical fields of neurology and geriatrics.

Externs have the opportunity to be an integral part of the neurocognitive evaluation team at The Pat Summitt Clinic. The Pat Summitt Clinic accepts externs into the program who exemplify the values of the University of Tennessee Medical center and who are eager to learn from a real-life neuroscience experience. Externs must demonstrate their ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner while remaining sensitive to the needs of patients and families.

The Pat Summitt Clinic Externship program provides interns an opportunity to participate in hands-on experiential learning while assisting the region’s healthcare experts in the areas of Alzheimer’s disease and non-Alzheimer’s dementia such as primary progressive aphasia, front temporal dementia, and autoimmune encephalopathy. The Pat Summitt Clinic externs receive specialized training in a battery of neurocognitive exams used in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. Externs are also involved in the collection of neurocognitive data for clinical trial research.
