James M. McLoughlin, MD, FACS

Associate Professor of Surgery

Dr. James “Jim” McLoughlin has been in practice for 8 years and has been at the University of TN  Medical Center since 2012.   His clinical focus is expanding surgical treatment options for advanced and complex cancers of the abdomen.  He also is expanding the nipple sparing mastectomy options for those with breast cancer or high risk for breast cancer. He and his wife have four children.  He and his family enjoy hiking, kayaking, swimming and home improvement projects. Outside of the hospital he enjoys serving with the Small Groups ministry at Faith Promise Church.  He also volunteers with the American Cancer Society.

Andrew Ward, FNP-BC

Andrew is a Family Nurse Practitioner who began his career in 2008 after graduating from the University of Tennessee with his MSN. Upon graduation, he received the faculty awarded Clinical Excellence Award and was recognized for a high pass rate on his comprehensive exams. After graduation, he was awarded a National Health Service Core position by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services. He then provided health care to under-served patients until 2012, when he joined the University Surgical Oncology group. He is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Society, Delta Phi Alpha International and Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Society.

Crystal F Wheelon, BSN, MSN, NP-C

Crystal is a Family Nurse Practitioner who has been in the nursing profession for 16 years. She graduated with her BSN in 1994 from the University of Tennessee. She worked as an RN with the University of Tennessee Medical Center from 1994-2003. She subsequently received her MSN in 2003 from UT with Academic Honors for a 4.0 GPA. Crystal was awarded the Clinical Excellence Award by the faculty of the school of nursing. After 2 years of practice in an in-patient setting, Crystal joined the team at the University of Tennessee Cancer Institute as a provider with University Surgical Oncology in July 2005. She maintains her Nurse Practitioner certification along with membership through American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

In addition, Crystal is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi International Honor Society.  She is a certified Clinical Breast Examiner as well as a certified instructor of Clinical Breast Evaluation
