ALS Clinic Achieves Certified Treatment Center of Excellence Status

(January 22, 2025) – The University of Tennessee Medical Center's (UTMC) ALS Clinic successfully met the criteria to achieve status as an ALS Association Certified Treatment Center of Excellence in December 2024. This prestigious designation recognizes the clinic's commitment to providing outstanding care and services to those facing the challenges of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

It is through a complex continuum of care and collaborations between providers, institutions, and the ALS Association's staff that patients, families, and caregivers are better prepared to address the challenges associated with living with ALS.

The requirements of the ALS Association's Certified Center of Excellence Program include several key components:

  • A strong relationship with the ALS Association
  • A multidisciplinary team of nursing and allied health professionals assigned to this patient population
  • A neurologist with the specific knowledge base to evaluate and treat individuals living with this disease
  • Ongoing process improvement initiatives
  • Involvement in continuous ALS-specific IRB-approved research

The ALS Association commends The University of Tennessee Medical Center for its commitment to the ALS community and its leadership in providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinical care. UT Medical Center is proud of this important milestone, which reflects and advances the missions of the ALS Association and the UTMC's ALS clinic to support the ALS community they both collectively serve.
