The University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Nursing have partnered to create a new undergraduate nursing pathway at a satellite campus adjacent to UTMC. The BSN Scholars Program is a robust academic-practice partnership that will offer nursing students an opportunity to learn and train inside UTMC, the region's academic medical center.

Interested in Learning More?

Current UT students and transfer students from other institutions can apply for an open position in this pathway. The BSN Scholars student application is the route for entry into nursing after the student has completed the required lower-division coursework and is ready to begin the junior upper division of nursing courses.

Students accepted will attend class and complete their clinical rotations at UTMC with access to an onsite learning lab and simulation center at the satellite campus, which is located in the UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm. This program has the same accreditation standards and follows the same mission, vision, values, and honor code as the UT College of Nursings’s existing programs. Students in the BSN Scholars Program will have last dollar tuition assistance from UTMC with a three-year work commitment post-graduation.

What to Expect

The BSN Scholars Program is a partnership that gives students the opportunity to earn their BSN from the University of Tennessee, College of Nursing, and train inside of UTMC. This pathway follows the University of Tennessee, College of Nursing accreditation standards, mission, vision, values, and honor code. The BSN Scholars program combines unique resources that will enable both faculty and students to participate fully in all facets of the health care delivery system.

Tuition Assistance & Requirements

Students in the BSN Scholars Program will have last dollar tuition assistance from UTMC with a three-year work commitment post-graduation. All classes will be taught by College of Nursing faculty whose positions will also be funded by UTMC.

BSN Scholars Program:

  • An accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) curriculum, spanning 15 months
  • College juniors with anticipated graduation of its first class in the fall of 2024
  • BSN upon program completion

BSN Scholars Open House

Attend an Open House for BSN Scholars

Students interested in the BSN Scholars pathway are invited to an in-person Open House at UT Medical Center, hosted in the Heart Hospital Conference Room. Students will get the chance to hear from UTMC staff and also learn more about the BSN Scholars pathway.

BSN Scholar Spotlight - Taylor

Taylor - BSN Scholar

Taylor is a current BSN Scholar who benefits from the innovative academic-practice partnership between UT College of Nursing and UT Medical Center. “The hands-on experience is incredible because the simulation lab aligns so well with our clinical practice at UT Medical Center,” Taylor said. She feels she’s reaped the rewards from both organizations.

“Being a Vol nursing student at UT Medical Center has shown me how both organizations truly invest in their students,” Taylor said. “Everyone is willing to help teach us no matter their title.” The organizations work seamlessly together, sharing the same accreditation standards and following the university’s mission, vision, values, and honor code.

As Taylor looks forward to on her upcoming graduation and future career at the medical center, she feels that being a BSN Scholar is an honor. “I can leave nursing school with no debt,” she said. “And I am well on my way to work at a Level I Trauma Center and a Magnet®-designated organization that truly cares for their patients and team members. It means so much.”
