“On my last visit, I failed to provide Mary with all of the information she needed to fully understand what I had been doing and how that was affecting my A1C. I sensed some "tension" with her because my blood sugar was "out of control" and she seemed upset with me because I think she felt that I had not been taking my meds.I wish she had more clearly communicated her concerns and what she perceived the situation was so I could have been more clear myself. She was, In fact, correct about me not taking some of my meds, but not why I had temporarily discontinued them. Again, this was not her fault but rather mine. I had just started taking a new medication, Ozempic, and wanted to see how I was going to respond to It without the other medications. That was a mistake and not something I should have done without consulting Mary first.Her "tension" with me because of the situation that I caused, I feel, was out of her concern for me as her patient and her sincere desire to see me get healthier.I realize, coming from a medical family myself, that as a health care professional, Mary, has to maintain a certain degree of professional and personal "detachment" to do her job. That being said, a little kindness and warmth can go a long way to making the visits less emotionally taxing and difficult. Usually, Mary has been great about this and this Is part of why I have continued to see her as my primary care provider.Now that I feel like I better understand what had happened and her reaction I feel bad about It, but also feel that we will better communicate in the future.”
