Endobronchial Ultrasound

What is Endobronchial Ultrasound?

Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) with transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) is a minimally invasive way to evaluate mediastinal lymphadenopathy and perform lymph node staging for lung cancer.

Why Perform EBUS?

  • Rapid access
  • Outpatient procedure
  • Performed under conscious sedation
  • Quick results
  • In many patients, EBUS can eliminate the need for surgical mediastinoscopy

Who Performs EBUS?

The Heart Lung Vascular Institute at UT Medical Center provides a rapid-access clinic for all EBUS referrals. Interventional Pulmonologists are available to follow the patient as needed, or can return the follow up care entirely to the referring physician.
