University Aesthetic Plastic Surgery - Dermal Fillers

Juvéderm

Juvederm is an injectable dermal filler that diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, improves the appearance of scars, smooths your face, and enhances facial fullness.

Our office offers Juvederm to reverse the signs of aging and enhance facial features. Dermal filler injections are regarded as safe and beneficial when administered by highly trained medical professionals. Dr. Wesley G. Wilson is board-certified and highly experienced in this cosmetic procedure. At Wilson Plastic Surgery, you get Dr. Wilson doing the injections, not a nurse or aesthetician.

How do Juvederm dermal filler treatments work?

Juvederm injections contain hyaluronic acid that has a gel-like consistency. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance produced by our bodies. It stimulates the growth of connective tissue known as collagen that naturally declines as we age. Heredity, sun exposure, and lifestyle can accelerate the deterioration of your skin. Stimulating collagen production is key to restoring a youthful facial appearance, giving it a fuller, plumper, smoother, softer, and more moisturized look. Dermal fillers are considered temporary procedures that require ongoing treatments to optimize and prolong results.

The Juvederm line of dermal filler products

Juvederm treatment typically focuses on your cheeks, lips, and the areas around your nose and mouth. It can also correct acne scars and reverse signs of facial fat loss.

Juvederm injections have three main types:

  •  Juvederm Voluma XC

Adds volume to your skin to boost the size of your cheeks

  • Juvederm XC and Juvederm Vollure XC

Fill out wrinkles around the mouth and nose

  • Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Volbella XC

These serve as non-surgical lip enhancers

During your consultation, we will help you decide which injectable or combination of injectables is right for you.

Preparing for your Juvederm treatment

The procedure doesn’t need much preparation. You will need to suspend the use of any medications or supplements that can elevate bleeding, such as aspirin. Smoking before your treatment is ill-advised. Be sure to let your doctor know of any allergies or sensitivities you have.

Juvederm Procedure

Juvederm is minimally invasive, so injections can often be done on the same day as your consultation. Your doctor will use a pen to mark treatment areas. Using a tiny needle, we will inject Juvederm into target areas. The injection formula contains a small amount of lidocaine, which will minimize any discomfort you might feel. The procedure usually takes between 15 minutes and an hour.

Juvederm Recovery

Recovery time is minimal. But you should avoid strenuous activity for at least a day after treatment, along with staying out of the sun, wearing makeup, and consuming alcohol for that same period.

Juvederm Results

Initial results are often noticeable immediately following your procedure and will improve over a period of weeks. While results can last up to two years, it is important to remember that Juvederm will require periodic re-treatments to optimize and extend your results.

Restylane

Hydrate and Refresh with Restylane

Restylane is a line of injectable dermal filler products and techniques used primarily to restore a more youthful and attractive facial appearance for both women and men. These non-surgical and minimally invasive injections have proved to be very safe and effective, but only when administered by trained and experienced medical professionals.

How does Restylane work?

Restylane injections use hyaluronic acid, a natural substance produced by your body. Hyaluronic acid promotes healthy and vibrant connective tissue and serves as a “sponge” that attracts water and hydrates your skin.

Restylane injections effectively diminish or erase facial wrinkles. They “plump” your skin by promoting dermal hydration and the growth of healthy and youthful connective tissue. Restylane is particularly effective in enhancing the look of your cheeks and the area beneath your eyes. Restylane products come in an array of customized formulae, one of which (Restylane Silk) is considered the cosmetic “gold standard” for lip repair or augmentation.

Am I a good candidate for Restylane dermal filler injections?

Restylane is only for adults 21 years of age or older. You should be in good general health. Pregnant women should not undergo this treatment because of its possible impact on fetuses.

Patients with bleeding disorders may not be candidates for dermal filler injections, and persons with inflammatory skin conditions, including rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis. Notify your doctor if you have a history of severe allergies or excessive scarring.

Restylane Procedure

Your injections will be administered in your doctor’s office and should take between 15 minutes and an hour. The procedure produces little discomfort. Your doctor will typically apply a numbing agent to your injection sites. Some Restylane formulas like Restylane Silk and Restylane Lyft contain a small amount of lidocaine. Tell your doctor if you have an allergy to that medication. Side effects are generally mild and brief, but try not to schedule your injections within 48 hours of any major event.

Restylane Recovery

Dermal fillers such as Restylane are less costly than surgical procedures and require almost no recovery time. Restylane treatments are very convenient, completed in just minutes in your doctor’s office.

Restylane Results

Restylane has more “structure” than other dermal fillers on the market. It stays in place after injection, as opposed to other fillers that tend to move and dissipate. This property gives your doctor more options and greater flexibility in building facial volume and molding your contours.

Results will begin to be evident within a few days and generally don’t begin to wear off for about ten months, after which you will need additional treatment to maintain and extend the benefits of your Restylane injections.
