Philip Tipton, MD is a movement disorders specialist and behavioral neurologist who treats patients with a variety of neurological conditions that effect movement and/or cognition, such as parkinsonian disorders, tremor, normal pressure hydrocephalus, dystonia, functional neurologic disorder, Alzheimer disease, Dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia, primary progressive aphasia, vascular dementia, and many others. Dr. Tipton also conducts movement neurophysiology studies to enhance characterization and diagnosis of certain movement disorders. He provides a wide range of treatments including, but not limited to, botulinum toxin injections and deep brain stimulation. Dr. Tipton is the Director of Research at the Cole Center for Parkinson’s & Movement Disorders. His specific research interests include neurodegenerative diseases, complex gait disorders, leveraging technology to enhance characterization and diagnosis of neurologic disorders, and deep brain stimulation (link to publications below). Dr. Tipton is a native of East Tennessee and attributes his early fascination with the brain to his grandfather, who had Parkinson’s disease. Working with outstanding neurologists in East Tennessee helped Dr. Tipton “appreciate the complexity of the nervous system and develop a passion for patients with neurological disorders.
