Overview
The University of Tennessee Medical Center offers a full complement of pulmonary (lung) services which include lung screening, diagnosis, treatment, support and rehabilitation. Pulmonary Care is an integral component of the Heart Lung Vascular Institute addressing lung conditions for Knoxville and the surrounding counties. Care services are provided on an emergent, inpatient and outpatient basis where the approach to care is patient and family centered.
University Pulmonary and Critical Care (UPCC) physicians and nurse practitioners specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of inpatient critical care patients who are typically hospitalized as well as diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary (lung) conditions in an outpatient setting.
Respiratory Services
The Respiratory Services team of registered and highly skilled respiratory therapists provide specialized care across the entire hospital. Those served by the department range from the tiniest of premature neonates to the eldest geriatric patients that receive bedside respiratory care, counseling and treatment. Well-trained professionals provide lung treatments including diagnostics, therapeutics and other specialty services.
Pulmonary Function Testing
As part of Respiratory Care Services, Pulmonary Function Testing uses routine and sophisticated diagnostic services for guiding therapeutic and management decisions for patients with lung disorders. Day to day operations of the PFT Lab are carried out by licensed and board certified respiratory care personnel who are specifically trained and experienced in pulmonary function testing and technology.
Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center
The Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center is the region’s only center for adult Cystic Fibrosis patients where a full multidisciplinary team provides comprehensive care for this special patient population. The University of Tennessee Medical Center developed the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center in conjunction with the pediatric program of East Tennessee Children’s Hospital to provide quality, multidisciplinary care for adult patients with cystic fibrosis.
Asthma Services
Asthma Services is an Asthma Clinic conveniently located in Knoxville, Tennessee. The clinic is dedicated to assisting patients with more effective disease management. This educational program includes triggers and characteristics of asthma, the role of medicines in treatment and appropriate medication usage.
Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation maintains the highest standards of care in the treatment of cardiovascular and pulmonary patients. Our program is designed to help you in returning to optimal health. Whatever your current level of wellness and fitness, the program will be tailored to your specific needs.
Thoracic Oncology Service
The Thoracic Oncology Service provides a unique specialty service for patients with suspected or known lung disease, including chest malignancies. Through the Thoracic Oncology Service, coordination of care between specialists is maximized to provide quality comprehensive, cost-effective care.
Interventional Pulmonology
Interventional Pulmonology uses advanced methods to diagnose and treat patients with lung cancer, pleural diseases and airway disorders. Interventional pulmonology services are provided on either an inpatient or outpatient basis. Our program offers state-of-the-art procedures utilizing the latest technologies.
